MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging

mri-frederick-mdMRI is short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It is a procedure used to scan patients and determine the severity of injuries. An MRI machine uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body part being scanned. The information and energy created by the MRI machine are then sent to a computer which processes all the signals and generates it into an image. The final product is a beautiful, detailed 3-D image representation of the area being examined. Those images are reviewed by our Radiologist and a report of the study is produced within 24 hours.

Unlike CT scanning or general X-ray studies, no radiation is involved with an MRI.

How to prepare for an MRI:

  • Don’t wear any loose jewelry or metal.
  • No fasting required.
  • Our MRI machine is equipped with a headset for patient comfort, offering music of your choice. Because the MRI can be rather loud we accommodate patients anyway we can. Please feel free to bring a CD of your choice.
